As an integral part of traditional Chinese culture, classical Chinese poetry carries a profound historical and cultural heritage as well as national spirit. It is not only a treasure in the history of Chinese literature but also a shining gem in the world’s cultural heritage. Through the English translation of classical Chinese poetry, the collective historical memory and cultural essence of the Chinese nation are conveyed to the world. This not only helps to showcase cultural confidence but also promotes cross-cultural communication and understanding. From the perspective of translation studies, this paper takes Ezra Pounds English translation of “Cathay” as its research material, delving into the specific manifestations of its core concept, “creative treason,” within “Cathay.” Through a detailed analysis of personalized translation, mistranslation, and abridged translation, this paper aims to reveal the significant role and value of translation studies theory in the process of translating literary classics. The research findings indicate that Pound’s translation strategies not only preserve the artistic conception and beauty of the original poems but also innovate and recreate to some extent, giving the translated texts new vitality within the target culture. This study not only provides a new perspective and methodology for the translation of literary classics but also offers valuable insights and references for future translation practices.
