Abstract
Sherley Anne Williams’ first novel Dessa Rose is a representative work of the neo-slave narrative. This novel focuses on the blacks’ resistance to slavery and their search for freedom, and highlights the key role played by the black community in it. As a female black writer, Williams pays more attention to the psychological experience of black women and their inheritance of traditional culture. Her work also reflects the deep concern and consideration for the fate of African-Americans and people of other races. Therefore, this novel becomes the focus study of neo-narratives by African-American women writers.
