Objective:to explore the relationship between the degree of social function impairment and the level of mental disability after craniocerebral injury. Methods: 201 forensic cases from 2009 to 2020 in Shantou University forensic center were collected. The degree of social function impairment was assessed by IDRS(intelligence disability rating scale) and MBI (modified Barthel Index).Results:In the identification cases of mental disability caused by craniocerebral injury, there was significant difference between the light, medium and severe mental disability and the degree of social function impairment (P < 0.05), but there was no significant difference between the light, medium and severe mental disability and the total number of craniocerebral injury sites (P > 0.05). There were significant differences in the scores of IDRs and MBI among different degrees of mental disability (P < 0.05). The limits of IDRs and MBI for mild, moderate and severe mental disability were 0-9 and 85-100, 10-14 and 46-85, 15-20 and 0-45, respectively.Conclusion: In the assessment of the severity of mental disability, IDRS and MBI can be used to distinguish the degree of mental disability. The assessment of social function can provide a relatively objective basis for the assessment of mental disability.
