The new curriculum standards place the educational function of the curriculum at a crucial position, emphasizing that teachers should take the cultivation of students core competencies as an important task in the teaching process, so as to achieve the fundamental educational goal of fostering virtue through education. With the advent of the concept of core competencies in the English subject, the direction of junior high school English teaching has been clearly defined. In the design of junior high school English teaching, it has become an inevitable trend for teachers to actively integrate the concept of subject core competencies. From the perspective of subject core competencies, there are still many problems in current junior high school English classroom teaching. For example, some teaching methods are too traditional, resulting in insufficient training of students comprehensive language application ability; insufficient attention is paid to the cultivation of cultural awareness, making it difficult for students to deeply understand the culture of English-speaking countries. In order to effectively solve these problems and improve junior high school students comprehensive language application ability, cultural awareness, thinking quality and learning ability, efforts need to be made in classroom teaching design. This article conducts a detailed study around this, systematically and comprehensively expounds a series of effective methods and strategies for the design and implementation of junior high school English classroom teaching under the subject core competencies, and provides a powerful reference for the improvement of junior high school English teaching quality.
