The White Snake 2: The Legend of the Green Snake, directed by Huang Jiakang, is an animated film full of fantasy and emotional depth. Through innovative narrative techniques and exquisite visual effects, it brings the audience a deeply touching story. This article takes the English translation of the subtitles of the film The White Snake 2: The Legend of the Green Snake as an example, and uses Zhang Delu’s multimodal discourse analysis theory to analyze its subtitle translation strategies and effects from four aspects: culture, context, content and expression respectively. At the cultural level, cultural elements are dealt with through literal translation, free translation, etc., to eliminate cultural barriers. At the contextual level, the author flexibly carries out supplementary and free translations based on the situational background to accurately convey the emotional connotation of the original text. At the content level, free translation is adopted to ensure the accuracy and conciseness of the information. At the expression level, it is necessary to integrate multimodal information and adopt free translation to ensure that the audience can understand the progress of the plot. The translator ingeniously employed various translation strategies to accurately convey the emotions, plots and cultural connotations of the film, promote cross-cultural communication, and provide a useful reference for the research on subtitle translation of domestic animation.
