Elderly depression, as a major issue affecting the mental health of the elderly, is increasingly receiving widespread attention from the medical community and various sectors of society. As people age, they face numerous challenges in terms of physiology, psychology, and society. These factors are intertwined, resulting in unique clinical characteristics of depression in the elderly and posing a serious threat to their quality of life. Elderly depression, as a common mental disorder among the elderly population, has its unique symptoms, causes, and nursing needs. This article summarizes the main characteristics of elderly depression, explores the importance and progress of home care in the rehabilitation of elderly depression, and discusses the importance and progress of home care in the management of elderly depression. Through measures such as daily care, dietary care, medication care, psychological care, and accident prevention, home care can effectively alleviate symptoms of elderly depression and improve the quality of life of patients.
