【Abstract】Objective: To explore the relationship between impulsivity and suicide attempt in patients with schizophrenia. Methods: The purpose of this study was to retrospectively investigate the patients with schizophrenia who were hospitalized in Hebei Sixth Peoples Hospital from January to December 2018. The general situation questionnaire was made by ourselves, and the socio-demographic data of the patients were collected. Impulsivity was assessed by the impulsive behavior risk assessment scale and suicide attempt history was assessed by the suicide risk assessment scale. Results: The positive rate of impulsivity in hospitalized schizophrenics was 35.7%. Univariate analysis showed that impulsivity in schizophrenia was associated with smoking, male sex, number of hospitalizations, and history of suicide attempts. Gender stratification showed that impulsivity was associated with suicide attempts in female schizophrenia patients (OR=2.068, P=0.005). Multiple Logistic regression analysis showed that multiple hospitalizations (OR=1.069, P=0.038), male (OR=1.579, P=0.005), and history of suicide attempts (OR=2.197, P < 0.001) were independent risk factors. Conclusions: Impulsivity is closely associated with suicide attempts in schizophrenia. Male patients with multiple hospitalizations and schizophrenia are at higher risk for impulsivity.
