[Abstract] Objective To investigate the effect of comorbid depression on labor outcomes in gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). Methods Eighty-two cases of GDM pregnant women in Zhumadian Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine from February 2020 to April 2023 were selected as observation subjects. The Hamilton Depression Assessment Scale was used to assess prenatal depression, and the observation group and control group were set up according to whether they were depressed or not. Maternal perinatal adverse events and neonatal adverse birth outcomes were compared between the two groups. Results 82 cases of GDM maternal combined depression 28 cases. The rates of premature rupture of membranes and cesarean section in the observation group were significantly higher than those in the control group (P<0.05). The difference in the incidence of postpartum hemorrhage and amniotic fluid excess was not statistically significant (P>0.05). The incidence of preterm labor, macrosomia, and asphyxia in the observation group was significantly higher than that in the control group (P<0.05). The difference in the incidence of low weight and hypoglycemia between the two groups was not statistically significant (P>0.05). Conclusion Maternal depression screening is higher in GDM, and comorbid depression increases cesarean section rates as well as the incidence of adverse maternal perinatal events and adverse neonatal birth outcomes.
