[Abstract] Objective The therapeutic effect of butylphthalide in the treatment of behavioral and psychological symptoms (BPS) in Alzheimers disease (AD) were observed. Methods Eighty-four AD patients with BPS from February 2021 to May 2023 were randomly grouped using the digital table method. The control group was treated with risperidone, while the observation group was treated with a combination of butylphthalide.The cognitive function, life ability, BPS, and adverse reactions of two groups of patients before and after treatment were compared. Results After treatment, the cognitive function and life ability scores of both groups increased, but the observation group had higher scores in both items after treatment (P<0.05). After treatment, the scores of both groups of AD behavioral pathology in AD rating scale (BEHAVE-AD) and neuropsychiatric inventory Chinese version (CNPI) decreased. But the observation group had lower scores in both items after treatment (P<0.05). There was no statistically significant difference in the treatment emergency symptom scale (TESS) scores between the two groups after 1 and 3 months of treatment (P>0.05). Conclusion The treatment of AD combined with BPS with butylphthalide can not only improve the cognitive function and life ability of patients, but also reduce BPS, and the medication is safe.
