International Research in Chinese Medicine

Insomnia is one of the common types of sleep disorders and a common complication and sequela in stroke patients. Long-term insomnia can not only lead to a variety of physical and mental diseases, but also may induce recurrence of stroke. Currently, there are fewer drugs in western medicine for the treatment of insomnia and it is easy to produce dependence. In recent years, Chinese medicine is more effective in treating insomnia. Meridian flow injection timing treatment and music therapy are the traditional specialties of Chinese medicine, which have been repeatedly practiced and explored in the clinic with good therapeutic effect in treating insomnia. The five elements music therapy combines the five sounds and five organs, and it is safe, effective and easy to operate for special groups of patients through evidence-based treatment. This review is intended to summarize the etiology and pathogenesis of stroke, the theory of meridian flow injection, the principle of music therapy and its clinical application, and to provide a theoretical basis for the combined application of the theory of meridian flow injection and the Five Elements Music Therapy in the treatment of post-stroke insomnia in clinical practice.
